This collection of letterpress cards is for those fond of textured paper and/or interested in older printing techniques. The designs are painted with calligraphy ink and Chinese paintbrushes on thick raw rice paper, and then scanned for creating letterpress plate files. Once the plates are ready, each ink shade is hand-mixed with palette knives on marble.
After registering the plates on the press, I apply ink to the roller, and crank the press so that each soft cotton sheet wraps around the cylinder, runs through the press and against the inked plates. For two-color cards, the first color is removed from the press, the second ink color is added, and the plate registration and pressing process is repeated. The cards are carefully inspected, and individually scored and trimmed.
